Hi,
I just finished my VIP3 entry. It's "Zig Zag", a character created by black rabbit (http://www.furnation.com/black_rabbit/). I made her as she appears in the Sabrina comic (http://www.sabrina-online.com/index.html). She is a skunk based anthropomorphic. In the stories she is sexy, somewhat provocative character who makes a nice contrast with the main character, Sabrina. Because of this I tried to make a slightly challenging pose.
It was the first time I tried a comic figure and it presented me with a challenge. I had to make a figure to look like a comic figure. So, instead of doing detailed hair and clothing I went for simplifying everything showing just what was shown in the comics. It took quite some trying to get that done but in the end I got an ok result. I'm not totally happy about the tail though.
I also got permission to do Sabrina but I didn't get around to that. I'll make her soon (still got to figure out the best way to do her pair of glasses).

Nice work, looks like the comic strip drawings. Very smooth and simple like a comic strip drawing. The only criticism I can think of is maybe the hair on the head is too smooth. In the drawings it is easier to tell it is hair. Before I saw the drawings I thought the mini had some kind of hood on.

I put pictures of my sculpt in the photo album. I think mine came out pretty good, if not as professional-looking as yours.

Shorts might have been better... so anyone painting the fig would have to do more of those stripes! (For those that do not know, Zig is a skunk with white tiger markings)

The fig is pretty good. But I have to agree on the tail. Her tail usually reaches higher, and is definitely broader than the one you made. But the sculpt is very good overall. I think you did a good job of catching her character :)

I would love to see the figure... good luck!

Thanks.

That's probably clearer when you see it in real life as you can't see the cuts in the side on the pics. I redid the hair a couple of times and then decided to do what I saw with a lot of Manga figures: no individual strand details.
Question for the group: what do you think the best approach would be for comic character hairs?

Good idea! I'll change that. Thanks.

I know that is the case in most of the illustrations at Black Rabbit's site but it's different in the comic (as are her feet). And I did the comics version. It could be interesting to do the other version as well some time. My problem with my tail is the texture. I still ahven't figured out the best way to sculpt a slightly irregular hairy tail without doing too much in hair details.

Ok. I'm waiting to see what comments Zig Zag gets so I can take them into account.

VERY nice! I agree, shorts would have been nice, but hey, stripes
are a pain to paint.
Amusing thing being, someone looking at the initial beginning
sculpts would have thought you were trying to make a duck..
