With that great, domed forehead, could this be that Napoleon of
crime, Professor James Moriarty? His pose has that sinister look
to it, with a face that radiates intelligence and malignity. I
love it!

to see this painted up!

Jason Moses writes...

This is one of my favorites of the set. Although it's very
simple and relatively uncluttered, the face, with its wonderful
arched eyebrows, has a great amount of character. Although
Thomas Grable says that this must be Moriarty, with the addition
of a different hat and a caped coat, this could just as easily be
Sherlock Holmes himself. From the perspective of a newbie
sculptor, it was interesting to see how the hat was incorporated
into the sprue.

Bob Charrette writes...

This is indeed the Professor and is based on an illustration by
Sydney Paget for one of the original publications of a Holmes
story.
The hat is sprued to allow it to ne more easily cast because if,
as per the illustation, it were in Moriarty's hand, the hollow of
the hat would have been at ninety degrteses to the plane of the
mold. A distinct no-no. As a side benefit, the hat need not be
added to the figure, leaving the Professor in a conversational
pose and with a bit of work, it could be added to the Professor's
head (metal hair does not compress like real hair when a hat is
applied).

Just about my favourite mini out of the set.It is perfectly in
scale and the detail is extremely subtle.the face of the arch
criminal radiates menace. He ven has abit of a comb over
happening.understated but elegant.nice.will end up as a diplomat
or envoy in my Indian mutiny/sudan armies(our man in Khartoum).

It's interesting seeing so many people being excited about his
miniature. This while on the surface you would say it looks
simpler than a lot of others. I think it's the subtlety in this
sculpt that causes this. While the pose and design seem fairly
simple they have been executed in such a way that a lot of
character is given to the sculpt. Even with a thin body and lack
of a surrounding scene he manages to radiate this air of
self-confidence and menace. I can imagine henchmen cringing under
that stare. The sculpting is magnificent. With all the fine details and
smooth finish. Drapery effects are all natural (even the fold on
the waist jacket is there). Great job. For me, I would be hard pressed to select a favourite but this
one would probably be it.
