Ryan

This is my first submission to VIC and I am very happy to have made the deadline. I'll start by saying that this mini is very well done. Hard to come by, but well done (To me in Pennsylvania from France, via California!). The workmanship is very good and it was a pleasure to paint.

At first I thought of him as a hunter and was going to go with a natural camouflage pattern. Upon closer examination of his accoutrements I decided to go with something abit more flashy.

This guy strikes me as a martial artist type; a hunter yes, but not a primitive one. He is more of a bounty hunter. Thus you see the bright red cloak and such. The weapon was fun. Nice and lethal and enchanted with runes. I'd love to get my hands on one of those!

This piece was done primarily in Citadel paints and inks, primarily for the colours and partially because they are so readily available. Various blues and purples (Ultra marine is such a nice colour) with mixed highlights.

I've lurked on the VIC site for awhile and have enjoyed the various postings. I look forward to seeing everyone's take on this mini.

Ryan

Because of the gloss it will be hard to critique - but here goes
-Strengths: Strangely enough my favorite part is his toenails -
not sure why - just is - the red is nice as is the stump.

Weaknesses: Not too sure about the shine of the purple skin -
well done - but can't see highlights or shadow work at all.

Overall: Probably a better mini than it appears - if you have
any more pics - minus the shine - let me know and I will
re-review...

omigod, it looks like he's wearing some kind of purple ninja suit
:-). Martial artist I can believe, but did he have to be a
ninja? blech (erm, pet hate, never mind). The purple is a good
strong colour. Unfortunately I don't think the blue and red work
with it... however his eyes stand out wonderfully in the head
shot. Interesting choice to not base it - this is one of the few
rackham figures that doesn't work well with their 'no basing'
style, as it already has sculpted scenery.

Interesting color choices. It is a bit shiny, though I'm not
crazy about the blue/red/purple all together. I do however,
think the unique skin color is kinda cool--especially with the
white hair. Where in PA are you?

Well, I never would have thought to see a purple Wolfen. Purple
is my favorite color, but I don't know if I like it here. No
matter, I'm glad you had the courage to try something exotic.
BTW, the wood grain on the halberd shaft is quite good.

Hi,

I agree with some of the others on this one- I'm not too keen on
the colour choice you've used here but he is neatly painted all
the same. Good work on the halberd and on the toenails.

Well, it's purple ;-) That doesn't seem to go well with the blue
I think, but still quite a daring approach. Look forward to
seeing your next one.

Wow - way too many colors in use here - purple body, blue, light
blue, red, green, brown buckles and white hair/tail. I actually
like the purple body which surprises me - although I like the
color I don't picture this mini with that color scheme. And the
buckles on the cloth work well. But I would have chosen
something in either green or topaz for the bracer color itself.
The greens and yellows tend to work better with purple than
blues. Aside from basic color theory, it seems well painted.
The left knee seems lighter than the rest of the body, and I
would have liked a back shot to see the back pouches, etc better.
Pretty good for a first submission (something that I still have
to be brave enough to do - so you're one step up on me -
<g>).

on to my own comments:

as for the shine, that bugs me abit. the shine i mean, not the
comments. i used the citadel matte sealer. matte. and yet i
have some shine. mayhap that's the flash from the camera.
as for the colours: well, i like purple for this guy.
obviously. i actually bought two of these blokes so that i could
paint another after seeing what other people did. as with some
others, i sat for awhile thinking of how to paint this mini. i'm
not familiar with the game world these come from (which i think
is good because i wasn't influenced by the company)and like
another poster said, i don't speak french so the cards did
nothing for me.
oh, as for a back shot, well, i forgot to include that pic.
sorry.
all in all, i'm loving being a part of this and will comment on
as many of the submissions as i can.

Love the purple, then again I really just like purple. You've
done a nice job of the skintones, although a little more
highlighting on the face would have been nice, perhaps around the
muzzle in particular.

Like the emphasis of the edges on the blades, gives a good
effect. Not too sure about the colours used on the detail work
toward the rear as it drags the eye all over the place.

Definitely avoid flash on your camera when taking photographs,
use at least two lamps and no flash and it should pretty much
eliminate the shine.

Nicely painted and definitely different from the other entries ;)
