Well folks, as luck would have it I painted up a Dark Elf Corsair
command group BEFORE I had ever heard of the mini-painter
discussion group, or of VIC! I actually submitted this entry
after the deadline but Dominic has been kind enough to allow us
late-comers in :)
My pictures are dreadfully blurry and the base was done for
gaming, not display, purposes. For the next VIC I would obviously
spend more time on the base and on the paint job itself. My pics
really dont show the paint job in a good light - in person, he's
actually quite dramatic. Im particularly pleased about the face -
and as has been discussed in some of the other entry commentary,
this guy is all about the face sculpt!
Things Im not overly happy with:

- the base
- the red runes on the sword. The blurriness of the picture
makes these look worse than they are in real life, but they still
could have been better - the inside of the cloak - it looks awfully flat in the shots.

Things Im happy with:

- the cloak. It is a subtle highlighting job that comes across
better in real life (Hi, Im a broken record) - the face
- the hair - the highlites are fairly subtle dark grey.

On the left leg, smoother highlights might be an idea. It looks a
little too stark a highlight at the moment. Also, the claws would
probably benefit from a darker shade toward their base.

Those are really about the only things I can pick up on, because
the rest is really nice. The blue clothing and (wonderfully)
bright armour go well together.

Cloak looks sweet, and the inside has a very 'fleshy' look about
it. The face is very well painted and gives him a gaunt look
while retaining a lot of colour. Brings out the cheekbones very
well.

He's got a very regal feel about him and looks like he'd probably
be more at home as a Knight than a Corsair. Nice work.

Hi Jarrett,

Nice paint job. The face is Outstanding! Overall your painting
is very good, I just think you need to smooth out the transitions
from shadow to hightlight.
