A little bit about my miniature. I didn't get too creative, I basically went with the color scheme I saw in the Dark Elf army book. I bought two miniatures intending to try different techniques but actually only ended up finishing one on time or sorta on time! ;)
I primered one mini white and one black. Strangely enough I've never been a fan of black primer, mainly because I have problems with paint coverage and consistency. For some reason the paint really seemed to flow well on the black primered miniature and I decided to make him my main entry. I used almost all Reaper Pro paints which I thinned some with Folk Art Extender.
I like how the shading on the tunic turned out, not sure if it should be brighter or not. I took my time on the lizard scale cloak and highlighted the individual scales, I'm pleased with the look! I can imagine it would be a pain doing a whole group of cloaked corsairs! I wanted him to be in dark colors so I didn't bother to use a contrasting color for the purple on his sleeves/pants. It's always tricky trying to highlight black and not have it turn out to dirty looking.
Overall I thought he was a very fun miniature to paint and I really liked the sculpt! This was my first time participating in the VIC and I found it very exciting! I hope I can be a steady contributor!

The armor color seems to fit this figrue very well. You've done a
great job with the shading on the cloak and armor. His skin could
use another highlight or two, though. He seems to have a fitting
bold presence.

Lovely all round job. It's got the 'functional' underlying armour
and basic clothing and then an 'extravagant' layer of cloak and
tabard.
Very rich colours on the extravagant items which compliments the
armour nicely without clashing. Good eye for colour there.
It would be nice to have the little bags on his left hip in a
more contrasting colour but that's really just nit-picking
(couldn't let you escape unscathed :)

Great Job! I've never been a fan of black primer either.

Hi Irven,
Another fine paint job. I agree that the skin could use some
more contrast, but for me I think it's the shadows the need to be
defined with a little darker wash. The same could be said for the
inside of the cloak, and the "gold" hilt and pomel of the
sword.
Great job...
